Understanding Over Memorization
My teaching philosophy emphasizes understanding over memorization. By incorporating improvisation and creative exploration, I help students not only learn how to play, but come to love what they play— something far too often overlooked in recent American pedagogy.
I am an award-winning pianist, composer, and songwriter. I have proficiencies in guitar, bass, ukulele, and hand percussion. I recently graduated summa cum laude from Hobart College. I have performed in jazz ensembles, pub rock groups, and coffee shops, and have produced hundreds of tracks over the past five years —both original work and as a collaboration with other artists.
